[WATCH] ‘Westworld’ episode 6 recap: ‘The Adversary’ is showcase for ensemble

“The Adversary,” the sixth episode of “Westworld,” saw Thandie Newton’s Maeve come to terms with the reality of her existence in the western theme park. Each week I will be chatting via webcam with Gold Derby contributors about the newest episode and its awards prospects. This time around, I am joined by Amanda Spears to analyze the best performance and all the plot points (watch above).

We discussed whether the star-studded cast would be nominated for the Screen Actor’s Guild TV Drama Ensemble award. I pointed out that “unlike Golden Globe voters, the Screen Actors Guild go more for old shows than new ones. They are not all about rewarding the hot new series.”

However, I went on to explain that “you have Anthony Hopkins, Jeffrey Wright, Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, James Marsden and Ed Harris. A lot of heavy hitters. I think they will get the nomination. Particularly with Hopkins and Harris; These are very respected actors in the industry. It’s not just a lot of big famous names thrown at a wall. They have the pedigree.”

Amanda agrees, noting that “Lee Daniel’s The Butler’ got a SAG nomination on the film side. You have to look at the list of actors in there and think that’s what probably helped them out.”
