DirecTV’s Audience Network is hoping to make an Emmy splash with its freshman comedy series “You Me Her,” which focuses on a triad romance between a husband and wife (Greg Poehler and Rachel Blanchard) and an escort (Priscilla Faia) who unexpectedly reinvigorates their marriage. The season finale airs Tuesday, May 24, but you can catch up on the whole series with a marathon of the first nine episodes on Sunday, May 22, at 9pm.
DirecTV is no stranger to the Emmys. After NBC’s “Friday Night Lights” moved to the satellite provider for its last three seasons, it earned its first ever nominations for Best Drama Actor (Kyle Chandler, 2010-2011), Best Drama Actress (Connie Britton, 2010-2011) and Best Drama Series (2011) for the show’s farewell year. That final season won two of its bids: Chandler won the lead-acting contest in an upset victory over Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”), and Jason Katims took Best Drama Writing.
Like “Friday Night Lights,” “Damages” also moved to DirecTV after multiple seasons on another network (FX); the legal thriller aired its last two seasons on the Audience Network, reaping a Best Drama Actress nomination for Glenn Close in 2012.
Now the network hopes its own original programming can break through with the TV academy. In addition to “You Me Her,” the network’s first original comedy, DirecTV’s gritty mixed-martial-arts drama “Kingdom” is currently in its second season.
