2017 MTV VMA winners: Full list of Video Music Awards winners

The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards were handed out on Sunday night, August 27, during a ceremony that took place live at the Forum in Inglewood, California. The awards were hosted for the first time by Katy Perry, who in addition to being a five-time past VMA winner was also nominated five times this year for her videos “Chained to the Rhythm” (with Skip Marley), “Bon Appetit,” and “Feels” (with Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams, and Big Sean). Scroll down to see the full list of nominees and winners in all categories.

Kendrick Lamar entered these awards with the most nominations (eight), including Artist of the Year and Video of the Year for “Humble.” He also performed at the event, as did Perry, Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, Fifth Harmony, Lorde, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Shawn Mendes, Logic, Khalid, Alessia Cara, Julia Michaels, Post Malone, Demi Lovato, DNCE, Rod Stewart, and Kyle.

Pink also took the stage, both to perform and to accept the honorary Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, which has been awarded in years past to legends like George Michael, Janet Jackson, REM, Beastie Boys, U2, and more. In recent years this prize has gone to Beyonce (2014), Kanye West (2015), and Rihanna (2016). In addition to this prize, Pink has won six competitive VMAs, including Video of the Year for “Lady Marmalade” (2001) and Best Female Video for “Get the Party Started” (2002).

The winners in most of the below races were decided by fans voting online, but six “professional categories” were determined by experts: Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Choreography, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Visual Effects.
