Maren Morris will be the big winner at the Academy of Country Music Awards tonight with five awards overall, but that belies how much we’re expecting the ACMs to spread the wealth tonight. Morris will claim four awards in two categories: Album of the Year as both artist and producer for “Hero” and Single Record of the Year as artist and producer for “My Church.” The special collaboration Artists of Then, Now and Forever is also predicted to win two categories, but the rest of awards hardware will be divided evenly among artists.
That’s according to our official odds, which are derived from the predictions of Gold Derby Editors who cover awards year-round, the Top 24 Users who got the top scores predicting last year’s ACM Awards, the All-Star Top 24 who got the highest scores when you combine ACM predictions from the last two years, and hundreds of total Users who make up the largest (and often savviest) bloc of predictors.
Carrie Underwood will reclaim her title as Female Vocalist of the Year after seven straight victories by Miranda Lambert. Underwood previously won that award three years straight from 2007 to 2009, and she’s been nominated every year since 2006 — this is her 12th bid in a row.
Elsewhere, Tim McGraw will be awarded Song of the Year for his sentimental hit “Humble and Kind.” Song of the Year is a writing award, and this song was penned by Lori McKenna, but artists share the accolade at the ACMs if their song prevails. “Humble and Kind” has been on a winning streak all season, taking the 2016 CMA Award for Song of the Year, then the American Music Award for Favorite Country Song, and recently the Grammy for Best Country Song.
Florida Georgia Line are expected to win Vocal Duo of the Year for the fourth year in a row. They’ve been nominated every year since 2013, and they’re now on their fifth nom. They seem pretty insurmountable since they’re the only duo also nominated for Entertainer of the Year and Album of the Year (“Dig Your Roots”), but Vocal Duo is projected to be their only victory tonight.
