Amazon presents ambitious, historic staging for Emmy FYC campaign

Amazon has chosen an aptly historic venue to showcase its top 10 Emmy contenders to TV academy members this week – the place where the TV awards were launched: The Hollywood Athletic Club. It was there that the first Emmy ceremony took place on Jan. 25, 1949 and now the premises have been remodeled to feature recreated sets, props and costumes from Amazon programs competing for golden statuettes to be doled out in September. Amazon even built a 500-seat theater to hold Q&As in the old gymnasium space where Johnny Weissmuller once beefed up for his Tarzan films.

Every night from Aug. 18 to 28, Amazon hosts For Your Consideration events for “Mozart in the Jungle,” “Bosch,” “I Love Dick,” “Catastrophe,” “Transparent,” “Patriot,” “Sneaky Pete,” “Z: The Beginning of Everything” and “The Man in the High Castle.”

The week kicked off with a preview party on Aug. 17 attended by journalists, academy members and talent from the Amazon shows, including “Transparent’s” Jill Soloway, Judith Light and Amy Landecker; “I Love Dick’s” Kevin Bacon, Griffin Dunne and Roberta Colindrez; “The Man in the High Castle’s” Rufus Sewell; “Sneaky Pete’s” Giovanni Ribisi and “Mozart in the Jungle’s” Malcolm McDowell and Bernadette Peters and many more.
