Even though the current season of FX’s anthology series “American Horror Story” has clowns, bees and even Donald Trump, diehard fans do not think it’s the scariest season yet. In fact, in our recent poll “AHS: Cult” actually comes in fourth place with 14% of the vote. So which three seasons are scarier than the current cycle? Fans give the edge to “AHS: Asylum” (38%), followed by “AHS: Roanoke” (19%) and “AHS: Murder House” (17%).
“American Horror Story: Asylum” is often considered by fans and cast members to be the pinnacle of the seven-year-old franchise. That season featured Jessica Lange as the troubled Sister Jude Martin, Sarah Paulson as investigative reporter Lana Winters, Evan Peters as innocent victim Kit Walker, and James Cromwell in his Emmy-winning role as the masochistic Dr. Arthur Arden.
Paulson and Peters are the only cast members to appear in all seven seasons of the show, and both are currently playing lead roles on “American Horror Story” Season 7. Paulson portrays Ally Mayfair-Richards in “Cult,” a woman whose former phobias come back to haunt her following Trump’s success with the electoral college, and Peters takes on Kai Anderson, a cult leader in the making who terrorizes Ally and her wife (played by Alison Pill).
Other “AHS: Cult” cast members include Cheyenne Jackson as Dr. Rudy Vincent, Billie Lourd as Winter Anderson, Billy Eichner as Harrison Wilton, John Carroll Lynch as Twisty the Clown, Chaz Bono as Gary Longstreet, Colton Haynes as Detective Jack Samuels, Adina Porter as Beverly Hope and Leslie Grossman as Meadow Wilton.
Rounding out the results of our poll, “AHS: Hotel” (5%), “AHS: Freak Show” (4%) and “AHS: Coven” (3%) are all within one point of each other.
