The Emmy nominated “American Ninja Warrior” has announced an all new special celebrity edition of the series featuring Derek Hough (“Dancing with the Stars”), Stephen Amell (“Arrow”), Erika Christensen (“Parenthood”), Natalie Morales (“Today Show”), comedian Nikki Glaser (“Not Safe with Nikki Glaser”), comedian Jeff Dye, Mena Suvari (“American Beauty”), baseball player Nick Swisher and Olympic gold medalist Ashton Eaton.
“Ninja Warrior” puts its contestants through a grueling obstacle course that is difficult and sometimes impossible even for highly trained athletes, so each of the celeb contestants will be paired with past finalists from the series who will show them the ropes: Kevin Bull with Eaton, Kacy Catanzaro with Amell, Drew Drechsel with Swisher, Natalie Duran with Suvari, Daniel Gil with Hough, Jessie Graff with Glaser, Grant McCartney with Morales, Meagan Martin with Dye and Flip Rodriguez with Christensen.
“Celebrity Ninja Warrior” will take place on Red Nose Day on May 25, when NBC will air a special night of programming to raise money and awareness for children living in poverty. The night will also include “The Red Nose Day Special” hosted by Chris Hardwick, a special “Running Wild with Bear Grylls” featuring Julia Roberts, and the highly anticipated short film sequel to the romantic comedy “Love Actually.”
“American Ninja Warrior” has aired since 2009 and earned its very first Emmy nomination for Best Reality-Competition Series in 2016. Then in 2017 it contended for the first time at the Producers Guild Awards for Best Competition Television.
