Guest judge DJ Khaled made waves on Tuesday’s Judge Cuts episode of “America’s Got Talent” by anointing singer-songwriter Chase Goehring with his Golden Buzzer. (See the complete list of “AGT” 2017 Golden Buzzers below.) Goehring sang an original tune, “A Capella,” which he described as a song that’s “about me.” He added, “I really just want to be my own artist and make music that people can relate to.” Watch Chase Goehring’s Judge Cuts video above.
“A Capella” was a mixed genre song featuring guitar-backed singing as well as soft rap verses. Khaled was so impressed with Goehring’s original song that he jumped up to his feet when the performance was over. “You know, I do this music thing for real,” he told Goehring. “I’m saying, I put out a lot of hit records. And let me tell you something. The lyrics — they’re so real and authentic, like an a capella. The way you were breaking it down and the way you got the crowd involved, you’re on your way to be a star.”
“This show and this stage is gonna make you into a … superstar!” Khaled hit the Golden Buzzer at that moment and the stage erupted in golden confetti. While “AGT” host Tyra Banks said that she was “tearing up,” Goehring stepped down off the stage to give Khaled a hug.
“We gotta work together,” Khaled told the young singer. “We gotta do something together.” By earning Khaled’s highly coveted Golden Buzzer, Goehring now goes straight through to the live shows. All four judges — Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel — agreed with DJ Khaled’s decision.
