‘America’s Got Talent’: Darci Lynne Farmer, Angelica Hale best Golden Buzzer acts, say 58% of readers

“America’s Got Talent” launches its live shows on Tuesday (Aug. 15) and the battle for season 12 champ looks like it will come down to two tykes – ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer and singer Angelica Hale. Both of them number among the nine Golden Buzzer acts who inspired one of the “AGT” celebrities to send them straight through to the live shows.

This ticket to the semi-finals was introduced two years ago and the winner of each of those seasons had first been singled out by one of the “AGT” judges. In Season 10, guest judge Marlon Wayans pressed his Golden Buzzer for ventriloquist Paul Zerdin, who went on to take the title. And last year, Howie Mandel hit it for 12-year-old singer/songwriter Grace VanderWaal, who also ended up on top.

This season, all four of the judges — Mel B, Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Mandel — plus new host Tyra Banks and the quartet of guest judges (Chris Hardwick , DJ Khaled, Laverne Cox and Seal) weighed in with their top picks, giving nine acts this special status.

We asked you which of these nine you think is likeliest to win the show. A whopping 30% of you predict that Farmer will find favor with America. During the premiere episode on May 30, Mel B was won over by this winsome pre-teen from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Farmer, 12, looked like a seasoned pro as she sang a duet of “Summertime” with her puppet Petunia. Watch Farmer’s audition video.

And 28% of you expect Hale to be haled as the winner next month. As we learned on the July 18 episode, she was only four years old when she needed a kidney transplant and her mother donated one of hers. Five years on, this talented tyke says she wants to be the next Whitney Houston. She certainly showed her potential with her raw delivery of “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys that had Hardwick hitting his Golden Buzzer. Watch Hale’s audition video
