When the final votes were read on “America’s Got Talent” 2017, child ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer squeaked out a win over second-place competitor Angelica Hale. (Read our recap of the “AGT” Season 12 finale.) Did America make the right choice, or should Hale have beaten Farmer to claim the $1 million prize? Vote in our poll below.
Following Farmer in first place and Hale in second place, light-up dance group Light Balance came in third, singer-songwriter Mandy Harvey was fourth, and dog act Sara and Hero placed fifth. The acts who finished between sixth and tenth places, in no particular order, were singer-songwriter/guitarist Chase Goehring, stand-up comedian Preacher Lawson, acrobatic dance group Diavolo, singer Evie Clair and singer Kechi.
While the race between Farmer and Hale was a tight one, Gold Derby’s savvy readers ended up predicting the correct winner. Farmer had leading 21/10 odds to win, followed by Hale in second place with 7/5 odds. This marks the third year in a row that our readers have accurately predicted the “America’s Got Talent” champion, following Paul Zerdin in 2015 and Grace VanderWaal in 2016. Host Tyra Banks announced during the two-hour season finale that a record 52 million votes were cast this week. Since Banks didn’t follow up that statement by teasing that it was a close vote, we’re assuming that Farmer was America’s runaway choice.
