Billboard Hot 100: Beyonce leaps into top-five with J. Balvin & Willy William, could follow in footsteps of ‘Despacito’

The best days are behind “Despacito” on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The collaboration between Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Justin Bieber is on the decline after a record-tying 16 weeks at number-one — all good things must come to an end. But another Latin remix just exploded into the top-five this week: “Mi Gente” by J. Balvin and Willy William featuring Beyonce, which gained from number-21 all the way to number-three. It takes over at the top of the digital sales chart this week, and it was the fifth most streamed song of the week, though that wasn’t enough to dethrone Cardi B‘s “Bodak Yellow,” which holds on to the number-one spot for the third week in a row. Watch the video above to see what else made the top 10.

J. Balvin and Willy William never had a top-10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 until now, but Beyonce knows a thing or two about that; this is her 27th top-10 hit, including several as a member of the R&B girl group Destiny’s Child. To date Beyonce has had nine songs hit number-one, also counting her work with Destiny’s Child. If she reaches the top spot again with “Mi Gente” it’ll be her first song in nine years to do so. Her last chart-topper was her ubiquitous 2008 hit “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).”

This week’s Hot 100 was marked by a number of other gains as well. After rising into the top 10 last week, Demi Lovato‘s “Sorry Not Sorry” moves up to number-eight, marking her highest ever chart position. Imagine Dragons also move up, ascending into the number-seven slot with “Thunder.” And Portugal. The Man is up one spot to number-six with “Feel it Still.”
