There’s no shaking “Despacito.” The single by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber is number-one on the Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart for the eighth week in a row, so it may be tough to beat for the title of Song of the Summer. It holds onto the top spot despite strong challenges by DJ Khaled and Imagine Dragons.
DJ Khaled’s latest album “Grateful” was released last week and topped the Billboard 200 albums chart, and on the strength of the album’s success Khaled’s two singles are knocking on “Despacito’s” door. “I’m the One” featuring Bieber, Quavo, Lil Wayne and Chance the Rapper holds steady at number-two. And “Wild Thoughts” featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, which debuted last week at number-four, moves up a notch to number-three. If it takes the top spot it would be Rihanna’s 15th single to do so, which will bringer her closer to the all-time record. She currently places third behind The Beatles (20) and Mariah Carey (18) for the most singles to top the Hot 100.
Also making a big move this week fueled by a strong album debut are Imagine Dragons. Their third album “Evolve” debuted is number-two on the Billboard 200, giving their single “Believer” a boost. The song rises from number-11 to number-six. It’s the third top-10 single for the band following their Grammy winning breakthrough hit “Radioactive” in 2012 and “Demons” in 2013.
