Bruno Mars will win the most American Music Awards, but not Artist of the Year according to our predictions

Bruno Mars is the most nominated artist at the 2017 American Music Awards, which will be presented on Sunday night, November 19, at a ceremony to be broadcast live on ABC. He contends eight times at these awards, which are decided by fans voting online, and according to our predictions he’s the frontrunner to win five of those including Soul/R&B Male Artist, which will make him the biggest winner of the night. He won’t however, take Artist of the Year.

Instead, pop singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran is the frontrunner for the top prize. Indeed he’s forecast to win four out of his five nominations, also including Pop/Rock Male Artist, Pop/Rock Song for his chart-topping “Shape of You,” and Adult Contemporary Artist. And there’s good reason to believe that Sheeran may have the advantage. Just a few months ago Sheeran won Artist of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards, which is also a fan-voted award, where he was also facing Bruno Mars.

Next in line is Kendrick Lamar, who we’re expecting to win three out of his five nominations, all in the rap/hip-hop genre field where he’s the frontrunner for Artist, Album (“Damn”) and Song (“Humble”). But maybe we’re underestimating him for Artist of the Year. He too had a big night at this year’s VMAs, claiming Video of the Year for “Humble,” so we know he’s got lots of fans on his side too. Will they follow him to the AMAs? He’s actually never won before at these kudos.

Below, check out our complete predictions by artist. Do you agree with our picks? There’s still time for you to make or update your own predictions here.
