‘Call Me by Your Name’ and ‘The Shape of Water’ will lead SAG Awards nominations, but ‘The Post’ will win

Call Me by Your Name” and “The Shape of Water” will be the top films at the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards when nominations are announced on Wednesday morning, December 13. That’s according to the collective predictions of more than 1,600 users at Gold Derby, including Expert film journalists, Editors who cover awards year-round for Gold Derby, the Top 24 Users who got the highest scores predicting last year’s SAG Award nominations, and the All-Star Top 24 who had the highest scores when you combine the last two years’ predictions. Scroll down for our complete predictions by film, with projected winners highlighted in gold.

Despite somewhat under-performing at Monday’s Golden Globe nominations, we’re expecting “Call Me by Your Name” to be embraced by the industry’s acting community with bids for its ensemble cast, lead actor Timothee Chalamet, and supporting actors Armie Hammer and Michael Stuhlbarg. “The Shape of Water” is also expected to be nominated four times: for its cast and for the individual performances by Sally Hawkins, Richard Jenkins, and Octavia Spencer.

Ironically, neither film is the frontrunner to win any category despite being predicted to earn the most nominations. Instead, the top prize is expected to go to the all-star cast of “The Post.” Lead acting prizes will go to Frances McDormand (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”) and Gary Oldman (“Darkest Hour”), while supporting awards are expected to be bestowed on Laurie Metcalf (“Lady Bird”) and Willem Dafoe (“The Florida Project”). However, our predictions don’t include the SAG Award for stunt ensembles, which could potentially add to the tallies of films like “Shape of Water” and action-driven contenders like “Dunkirk,” “Wonder Woman,” “Baby Driver,” and more.
