“Big Brother” fans were gobsmacked after the closing of Thursday’s double eviction episode when host Julie Chen announced “Celebrity Big Brother” will launch its inaugural season this winter. The hit reality TV series has served as a CBS summer ratings boost for 19 seasons, but will the addition of more familiar houseguests attract even more viewers?
Vote in our poll below to let us know if you’re excited about the upcoming celebrity installment of “Big Brother,” or whether you think it’s a terrible idea. And sound off in the comments with which famous faces YOU would like to see locked in the house together engaging in the inevitable scheming, backstabbing and drama.
CBS has confirmed that Chen will be back to serve as host and the new series will air multiple nights per week. Head of Household and Veto competitions are still in play as well as live evictions and 24/7 Live Feeds through CBS All Access. The length of the run has yet to be revealed, but it is likely to be considerably shorter than the 90-plus days a typical summer season lasts.
While this is a first in the USA, the British version of “Celebrity Big Brother” debuted in the UK in 2001 and recently concluded its 20th season. The latest installment lasted just over three weeks, which could serve as a precursor for what to expect stateside. What caliber of celebrities will participate in America’s first season? We can’t be sure just yet, but Gary Busey won Season 14 in the UK and we can only hope he returns to play on his home turf.
“Big Brother” purists need not worry. Season 20 in its traditional format has also been confirmed to air next summer on CBS.
