Nine-year-old singer Celine Tam performed Tuesday night during the Quarterfinals 2 episode of “America’s Got Talent” 2017. The young girl, who is named after Canadian superstar Celine Dion, belted out “When You Believe” from Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Back in the Judge Cuts round, guest judge Laverne Cox (“Orange is the New Black”) annointed Tam as her Golden Buzzer pick after the talented tyke sang “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You.” During Tuesday’s live show, rose pedals fell from the sky as the in-house judges — Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel — mostly praised her performance of “When You Believe,” with Klum even giving Tam a standing ovation
However, Mel B was not wowed by the little girl’s performance. “Celine, you are nine years old. You know, you are very brave to be up there on that stage and just be singing in your element,” Mel B began. “But tonight I just think the song was too big for you. I do. I think you’re amazing but I think you should have chosen a different song and really contained your voice just a little bit better. Because I love you.”
Klum instructed Tam to “forget everything she just said,” while Cowell audibly booed and hissed at Mel B for her negative remarks. And Mandel schooled Mel B by telling her she’s “not getting the point” of the nine-year-old singer’s appeal. What did YOU think of Celine Tam’s live show performance on “AGT”?
