Singer-songwriter/guitarist Chase Goehring, who previously earned DJ Khaled‘s Golden Buzzer, performed Tuesday night during the Semifinals 1 episode of “America’s Got Talent” 2017. So far the 21-year-old heartthrob has only performed original songs on “AGT,” and that tradition continued this week. Did you enjoy “What Is Love” as much as Goehring’s previous originals? Only one “AGT” judge — Simon Cowell — gave Goehring a standing ovation this time around. Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel all remained seated, though they still notably had good things to say about the young singer/rapper, including the fact that he continued to be a risk-taker. Here is a breakdown of their critiques:
Cowell: “Chase, can I just tell you something? I think you are such a special person, such a special singer. What a great songwriter, brave. It’s just you, a boy and a box, without all the production. I meant what I said earlier, and you haven’t compromised yourself, and it is so important on a show like this that you’ve got the strength and the courage to show people who you really, really are outside of this show. I think you’re special. I love you, Chase, and I really pray you’re in the Final.”
Mel B: “You are different and you’ve always taken risks. But you’ve always stayed true to yourself and I have to respect you for that. You just come out here with your original vibe, with your song and your vocals and your rap quick thing that you really, really love (gestures to Heidi). So I just have to say, I really hope America votes for you, because you deserve to be here.”
Klum: “I like that, it makes me all bouncy, bouncy, bouncy. But you know what? I think there are so many girls at home right now watching you and they all have a huge crush on you and they’re all gonna vote for you!”
Mandel: “I said earlier, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. It’s never been broke with you and you didn’t fix it and you’re staying the course. And I try to describe you to people who talk to me in the street, and I think if Ed Sheeran and Logic had a child, it might be you.”
