Sorry, Alec Baldwin & Tom Hanks: Chris Pine is actually our readers’ favorite male ‘SNL’ host of Season 42

In our poll that asked which of the 12 male “Saturday Night Live” hosts was our readers’ favorite for Season 42, Chris Pine‘s fans came out in droves. With 61% of the vote, Pine absolutely dominated our poll, far outpacing second-place contenders Alec Baldwin and Tom Hanks, who tied at 7% support apiece. Watch Pine’s hilarious “SNL” monologue that poked fun at the similarities between he and a trio of other Hollywood Chrises: Pratt, Hemsworth and Evans.

Even though his May 6 outing was Pine’s first time hosting NBC’s long-running “Saturday Night Live,” he reminds the audience during his monologue that he actually had a walk-on cameo on “Weekend Update” back in 2009 to promote his first “Star Trek” film. “Lorne Michaels was impressed that I did such a good job, I could come back eight years later,” Pine joked.

The biggest surprise in our poll results was seeing how low some of the show’s Five-Timers Club members fared, like Hanks, Baldwin and Dwayne Johnson (who earned only 1% of the vote). When compared to first-timer Pine, there was no competition for these “SNL” regulars.

Among Pine’s more memorable sketches, he appeared in “Where in the World is Kellyanne Conway,” a World Peace rap short, a SWAT recon skit, an office meeting scene, “The House” short, an auto shop that loved “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “The Handmaid’s Tale” short, a “Star Trek” lost episode, and a couples game night sketch.

Coming in at 6% support apiece was Benedict Cumberbatch and Dave Chappelle. All of the other “SNL” male hosts earned paltry numbers: Lin-Manuel Miranda at 4%, Aziz Ansari at 3%, Jimmy Fallon at 3%, John Cena at 1%, Louis C.K. at 1% and Casey Affleck at 0%.
