2017 CMA predictions: Luke Bryan & Garth Brooks too close to call for Entertainer of the Year, according to our all-star users

The 2017 CMA Awards are coming up in three weeks on Wednesday, November 8, and our users have been analyzing the races since the nominations were announced. And based on their predictions, you can expect Luke Bryan to win Entertainer of the Year for the third time in four years.

As of this writing Bryan gets overall leading odds of 13/10. But when you consider just the predictions of our All-Star Top 24 Users, who got the highest scores when you combine the last two years’ CMAs prediction results, it’s neck-and-neck. Bryan currently has support from exactly half (12) of our All-Stars, compared to 10 who are backing Garth Brooks. So who’s right?

Brooks is the defending champion, having prevailed last year for the fifth time in his lengthy career. He has no other bids this year, which may suggest limited overall support from the Country Music Association, but he didn’t have any other noms when he won last year either, so it might not be a problem for arguably the most popular artist in country music history.

Bryan doesn’t have any other nominations either, so if this really is strictly a two-way race then they’re entering the contest on equal footing. Bryan previously won Entertainer of the Year in 2014 and 2015, but he’s never needed much more support anywhere else on the CMAs ballot. In fact, his two Entertainer victories are his only two victories ever at these awards.

Only one of our All-Stars is forecasting an upset victory for Keith Urban, who won this prize just once before, way back in 2005. But Urban does have the benefit of far more nominations this year (four) than Brooks or Bryan. None of our All-Stars think the last two nominees, Eric Church or Chris Stapleton, will win.

So do you agree with the All-Stars, or are they dead wrong about the state of the race? Make your predictions here and discuss this and more with your fellow music fans in our forums.
