Costa Ronin (‘The Americans’) on the show’s unpredictability: ‘I expected to die every single episode’ [WATCH]

The new season of “The Americans” hits the airwaves March 7 following a recent awards breakthrough for the series; in 2016 the Cold War spy drama earned its first Emmy nomination for Best Drama. The cast and crew of the series were in New York City on February 25 to celebrate the fifth season premiere, but actor Costa Ronin never expected to make it even this far (watch above).

“I expected to die every single episode,” Ronin told Gold Derby on the red carpet. “I was coming in to do two episodes and go home. And I’m here five years later. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Ronin plays Oleg Burov, who works in the Russian embassy before requesting a transfer back home to the USSR. “This season is different because the audience gets to see different sides of Oleg,” the actor explained. “We went to Russia, we got to shoot there for a little bit. It was great to be able to see how the American crew and Russian crew came together in telling this one story without any sense of Cold War or anything that was going on or might be going on right now. The story brought us all together.”
