Aline Brosh McKenna dishes continuing the story of ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ and Rachel Bloom [EXCLUSIVE VIDEO]

“We were just excited to continue the story,” divulges Aline Brosh McKenna as we chat via webcam (watch the exclusive video above) about the second season of her show “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” McKenna co-created the CW series with Rachel Bloom, who stars as Rebecca Bunch, a lawyer who leaves a job at a successful New York firm to pursue the love of her life, Josh Chan (Vincent Rodriguez III), in West Covina, CA, to mixed results. “When Rachel and I pitched the show,” McKenna recalls, “we had conceived it in four distinct chapters, so we knew where we wanted every season to go. So we were really excited to tell that story.”

At the end of the first season, Rebecca confesses to Josh that she moved across the country for him, causing him to question their relationship. “She basically can’t put that cat back in the bag,” explains McKenna. “Season two is all about her finding strategies to make that OK, and sort of make her lies palatable to him.” In the end, “she does it so well that he proposes to her,” yet the result is far from a fairy tale ending.

McKenna received BAFTA, WGA, and USC Scripter nominations for her screenplay to “The Devil Wears Prada” (2006). She and Bloom won the Gotham Award for Breakthrough Series for the show’s first season in 2016.
