Bull rider Bonner Bolton has been hit-and-miss this season on “Dancing with the Stars,” but his “Most Memorable Year” dance demonstrated that traditional ballroom styles are perhaps his greatest strength. He performed a foxtrot with pro partner Sharna Burgess in remembrance of 2016, when Bolton broke his neck and nearly lost his life in a rodeo accident. Watch it above.
Julianne Hough said of the dance, “I’m feeling good after that. Ballroom dances suit you. From last week’s [disappointing Charleston] to this week — huge difference.” Bruno Tonioli added, “I think there’s a new leading man in town! Tonight you were so much more in control.” Carrie Ann Inaba told him, “What you do that’s so incredible is that there’s a fluidity to all of your moves, an honest integrity and authenticity.” Len Goodman concluded the judges’ remarks by saying, “Your frame was good, you had wide elbows, flat back — your footwork is a little bit suspect, but I’ve got to say, welcome to the competition.”
That routine earned Bolton straight 8s from the judges for a total of 32 out of 40. That was good enough to tie him with singer Normani Kordei for fifth place on the leaderboard, so there’s undoubtedly still room for growth. And he may have to hope for more ballroom styles that suit him in the near future well because he might have trouble with faster-paced dances.
