Season 25 of “Dancing with the Stars” is quickly approaching. The reality competition series returns on September 18, but we won’t know the celebrity contestants under they’re announced on “Good Morning America” on Wednesday, September 6 — at least, we won’t know them officially until then. Several names have been leaked in advance of the official announcement.
HGTV “Property Brothers” star Drew Scott was the first celeb officially confirmed by ABC. He was unveiled on “GMA” on August 30 as a partner for pro dancer Emma Slater, who is the defending Mirror Ball champion after claiming the title this past spring with football player Rashad Jennings. Then ABC made the official announcement on September 5 that football star Terrell Owens will team up with pro dancer Cheryl Burke.
Reports had already surfaced that Scott and WWE diva Nikki Bella would be in the mix a week before ABC made any official announcement, and they’re not the only names that have surfaced. A few days after that first leak we learned that boy band singer Nick Lachey and his wife, beauty queen and TV personality Vanessa Lachey, would be going head-to-head, making them the first husband and wife celebs to compete in the same season since Alexa PenaVega and Carlos PenaVega were cast in season 21 (Alexa finished sixth, Carlos finished fourth). Nick Lachey’s younger brother Drew Lachey was actually a contestant on the show more than a decade ago, winning the Mirror Ball Trophy back in season two, so winning this show runs in the family.
Then it was revealed that NBA basketball player Derek Fisher and musical theater and TV actor Jordan Fisher (no relation) would enter the ballroom. Entertainment Tonight also reported additional cast members: Paralympian swimmer Victoria Arlen, Emmy nominated “Malcolm in the Middle” actor Frankie Muniz, “Shark Tank” star Barbara Corcoran, and violinist Lindsey Stirling.
That means there are only a couple of spots left in the “DWTS” celebrity lineup. Will all the unofficial reports prove true just as Drew Scott did? Find out in September 6 when ABC makes it official.
