“Dancing with the Stars” is a competition where arguably the best dancer was just eliminated. Actress Heather Morris, best known for playing cheerleader Brittany on “Glee,” was sent home last night in eighth place despite consistently strong scores. Meanwhile, contestants who have been uneven throughout the season now advance to the top seven. That’s because only half of the competition is determined by the judges’ scores. The other half is decided by viewers voting from home, so clearly her fans didn’t come through for her. Are you outraged, or did she have it coming? Vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
One might ask, did Morris belong on the show in the first place? That’s another big question her elimination raises. She has a conspicuous amount of dance experience for an amateur dance competition like “DWTS.” Not only was she a star on the musical comedy “Glee,” she also performed as a back-up dancer for Beyonce. She even competed on “So You Think You Can Dance,” which is an advanced contest where amateurs need not apply. Perhaps that’s why “DWTS” fans didn’t support her: despite her consistency, they preferred the contestants who really were brand new to dancing.
But if that’s why voters rejected Morris, why haven’t they also come after singer Normani Kordei, who has danced since childhood, or Simone Biles, whose gymnastics training also gives her an advantage. And past Mirror Ball Trophy winners like figure skater Meryl Davis (season 18) and actor Alfonso Ribeiro (season 19) also came to the ballroom with lots of advance training, so why weren’t they penalized?
Weigh in on this controversy by voting below: was Heather Morris robbed or did she deserve to go home? Then make sure to predict who you think will go home next.
