The pro dancers who will compete in season 25 of “Dancing with the Stars” will be announced on “Good Morning America” on Thursday, August 24, but Entertainment Tonight is already reporting two of the celebs who will join them on the dance floor. Sources tell ET that reality TV host Drew Scott and WWE wrestler Nikki Bella will challenge for the Mirror Ball Trophy. How do you think they’ll do?
There have been plenty of reality stars on “DWTS” before, but we don’t have much to go on when forecasting how a TV realtor might do when he steps into the ballroom. Drew Scott co-hosts “Property Brothers” on HGTV with his twin brother Jonathan Scott, but buying, selling, and remodeling houses isn’t a particularly good indicator of dance ability. He could be a secret Baryshnikov, or he could have two left feet. However, he does have an HGTV fan base that might overlap with “DWTS” viewers, so he might get enough fan votes to survive a few weeks even if he doesn’t win over the judges right away.
We do have precedent for WWE pro wrestlers. Nikki Bella follows Stacy Keibler, who finished third in season two, and Chris Jericho, who placed seventh in season 12. Pro wrestlers do have a couple of significant advantages: they’re trained athletes accustomed to entertaining a live audience. Of course, that doesn’t necessarily make one a great dancer, so we’ll have to wait and see. I suspect that if she’s a contender to win we’ll know it from night one.
