‘Dancing with the Stars’: Frankie Muniz & Alfonso Ribeiro’s trio dance brought the best out of both of them [WATCH]

“Frankie is kicking butt. It’s only downhill with me,” joked season 19Dancing with the Stars” champion Alfonso Ribeiro about teaming up with Frankie Muniz and Witney Carson for a special trio dance on “Trio Night,” but Carson was optimistic. She won the Mirror Ball with Ribeiro, so she was well acquainted with his strengths as a performer. “The similarities are so apparent,” Carson said about her two partners. “They process information the same. They kind of dance the same.”

Muniz continued to be insecure about his place in the competition, though. “We’re doing the jive, one of the styles I was most scared of,” he explained. “I hope I can keep up.” But Ribeiro assured him, “You’re a contender, and you’ve got to see yourself that way.” Based on the judges’ scores it seems that he did keep up for the most part, receiving straight 9s for a total of 27 out of 30. Watch it above.

Bruno Tonioli said, “There’s something about Witney that brings the best out of both of you. It was so well balanced because you never overpowered each other … The sync considering the speed was quite good because to hit those feet at the right time at that speed is very hard. Great performance.” Carrie Ann Inaba added, “It was a very strong performance,” but “I did see the nerves this time. You looked a little intimidated at moments, and I felt that you pulled back at very small moments … It’s so tiny, but it stands out at this point.” And Len Goodman concluded, “I thought it was full of energy, full of content, full of fun. A lot of this competition is about confidence. It’s about the skill to win, but it’s also about the will to win,” so he too encouraged Muniz to believe in himself more.
