“Our ‘Iconic Dance’ is a jive that Mark Ballas and Paige VanZant did to ‘Proud Mary,'” explained Jordan Fisher during the “Dancing with the Stars” semifinals. The premise of the iconic dances this week was for this season’s semifinalists to perform a routine that received perfect scores by contestants in previous seasons. That’s a lot to live up to, especially for Fisher, who was performing a dance made famous by his current competitor Ballas. But as always Fisher made it look easy, and may have even outdone the original dance. Do you agree? Watch it above and let us know below in the comments.
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba began her comments with a lot of unintelligible utterances of excitement — Fisher was so good she was speaking in tongues — before she regained her composure and said, “I’m so glad you got that number. That’s like the marathon of all jives, and not only did you nail it, you also did the double cartwheel with straight legs.” Len Goodman gave Fisher a standing ovation last week, and this week his praise was no less dramatic: “Over the years there have been good jives, there have been great jives, and now we’ve got Jordan’s jive which is the yardstick [by which they’ll be measured].” And Bruno Tonioli concluded, “That was a triumph. Very rarely a remake can top an original — this one did. You combined Mark and Derek Hough in one dance.”
What did you think of Fisher’s iconic routine? Is this truly the jive by which all other jives will be measured? Vote in our poll below to let us know if Fisher deserves to win the Mirror Ball Trophy.
