‘Dancing with the Stars’: Was Jordan Fisher’s ‘Ballroom Night’ waltz perfect, or lacking grace? [WATCH]

“Tonight I would love for us to have the best dance of the night,” said Jordan Fisher right before his “Ballroom Night” Viennese waltz with his pro partner Lindsay Arnold on “Dancing with the Stars.” He got his wish, though just like in the season premiere episode he had to share the top spot on the judges’ leaderboard. There was a three-way tie: Fisher, Paralympian Victoria Arlen, and TV personality Vanessa Lachey all scored straight 8s from the judges for a total of 24 out of 30. Above, watch the waltz that earned Fisher his second high score of the season.

But his scores could have been even better; the judges thought it had room for improvement. Len Goodman said, “I liked it … but it was a tad staccato for me, a little bit sharp in the movements on occasion.” He wanted the see a waltz with a more graceful character, more “lyrical, soft movement … but you’re a terrific dancer.”

Bruno Tonioli added, “You delivered a true ballroom sparkler. What I liked was the attention to detail of the musical interpretation.” But Carrie Ann Inaba echoed some of Len’s feelings: “It’s undeniable how incredible you are. You are an amazing lyrical dancer. I would like to see a little bit more ballroom nuances. I see a little bit of lyrical jazz nuances, but I want to see more ballroom … but you are amazing.”

Just imagine if he had nailed those ballroom nuances — maybe he could have gotten some of the earliest 10s in “DWTS” history. Did you agree with the judges’ score declaring him the best of the night? Or did you agree with the judges’ comments arguing that he could have been better? Vote in our poll below to let us know your favorite routine on “Ballroom Night.”
