Were the “Dancing with the Stars” judges fair to the contestants on “Most Memorable Year” night? That was my question when I joined Gold Derby contributor Jeffrey Kare for our weekly slugfest to discuss the latest developments (watch above). My takeaway from the night was that the male celebs were scored somewhat more generously than their female counterparts.
It started with singer Normani Kordei‘s rumba, which despite being as technically impressive as usual received a surprisingly low 7 out of 10 from Len Goodman, who subsequently gave 8s to baseball player David Ross and bull rider Bonner Bolton despite their noted footwork problems. And though football player Rashad Jennings undoubtedly deserved his 10s for his emotional contemporary routine, gymnast Simone Biles was just as good in her Viennese waltz, but she only got 9s.
“It would have been nice if she got a bigger standing ovation than she received,” says Kare about Biles’s stellar performance. “And you are probably right that she did deserve at least one 10, but she was at least scored well enough.” However, Kare disagreed with my overall assessment of the judging, arguing that “most of the scoring was pretty fair.”
So what do you think? Were the scores spot-on? Were they completely off-base? Or perhaps they were somewhere in-between. Watch our slugfest above, and vote in our poll at the bottom of this post to let us know what you think.
