“Disney is part of the magic of my childhood,” said violinist Lindsey Stirling on “Dancing with the Stars” before her “Pinocchio”-themed foxtrot on “Disney Night” (watch above). “I love Disney princesses so much. I really wanted to be one … I want to be like Tinkerbell, or maybe I’m Belle — but they thought I was more of a Winnie the Pooh.” She may not have played a Disney princess on “DWTS” this week, but she was still regal in her performance to “When You Wish Upon a Star.” “The essence of what this song is about is that your dreams can come true. I remember when I was a struggling artist, and when I was being told I would never succeed, I was inspired by the Walt Disney story.”
“That was lovely, not a hint of Pooh!” said host Tom Bergeron before turning it over to the judges for their comments. Carrie Ann Inaba praised Stirling, saying, “I think what I loved most about that was that this week you didn’t go quirky. Every week so far you’ve brought a little quirk. This was classic and stunning. It was such a transformation for you … just beautiful, incredible dancing with one of the finest holds I’ve ever seen.”
Len Goodman added, “That was delightful … I’m telling you, I absolutely loved that.” And Bruno Tonioli concluded, “By the end I felt I was bathing in stardust. You really had that kind of magic going. It really captured this kind of timeless style and elegance. It was almost like Fred Astaire meets Disney.” Stirling ended up with the third highest score of the night with two 9s and a 10 (from Len) for a total of 28 out of 30, behind only Jordan Fisher and Frankie Muniz.
