Seven weeks into the season of “Dancing with the Stars” and gymnast Simone Biles still hasn’t let go of the lead in our predictions for who will win the Mirror Ball Trophy. She’s been on top since the season 24 cast was announced. What’s unusual about that is the fact that Biles hasn’t had the top score on the judges’ leaderboard since week one. She has always finished fairly high in the scores, but she has yet to regain her perch. Might she be more vulnerable than we think?
As of this writing Biles gets 5/4 odds of winning the season, which translates to a 44% chance of taking home the Mirror Ball Trophy. That’s down slightly from last week when she had 1/1 odds (49% chance), so her grip seems to be loosening. That slight decline makes sense since Biles was fourth on the leaderboard last week after scores were combined for her Destiny’s Child samba and her team dance at the end of the night.
Singer Normani Kordei has taken advantage of Biles’s vulnerability. She’s in second place in our prediction rankings with odds of 21/10 (32% chance of winning). That’s a significant uptick from last week when she had 10/3 odds (23% chance of winning). It doesn’t hurt that Kordei has topped the judges’ leaderboard three times already this season, and her Pussycat Dolls salsa last week was another judges’ favorite.
Holding on to third place is football player Rashad Jennings, but like Kordei his odds have improved. He currently gets 9/2 odds (18% chance of winning), up from last week when he was at 13/2 odds (14% chance of winning). He too had a good night during last week’s show, impressing the judges with his Four Tops tango.
No one else comes close to those three in our predictions. Ranked fourth is figure skater Nancy Kerrigan (50/1 odds, 2% chance of winning), followed by bull rider Bonner Bolton (50/1 odds, just under 2% chance of winning) and “Bachelor” star Nick Viall (66/1 odds, 1.5% chance of winning).
This time last week we thought actress Heather Morris was among the top four contenders. After her surprise elimination, it appears that the users who had been predicting her to prevail have mostly switched to Kordei or Jennings instead of Biles, which would account for Kordei and Jennings’s markedly improved odds.
