It’s hard not to root for figure skater Nancy Kerrigan on “Dancing with the Stars.” She’s an impressive dancer, but she’s only just beginning to realize it, and as her confidence rises so do her scores. That was certainly the case on “Most Memorable Year” night, when she opened up about the miscarriages she suffered while starting a family in the 1990s, and then performed a foxtrot with partner Artem Chigvintsev inspired by those struggles. Watch her routine above.
“This had an amazing lyricism,” said judge Bruno Tonioli. “It had a wonderful dynamic flow all the way through.” Added Carrie Ann Inaba, “You have that incredible vulnerability that lies just beneath the surface of this incredible courage. It is so inspiring … You really push yourself to the edge emotionally.” Len Goodman told her, “You did a nice amount in hold, showing proper foxtrot movement. From week one I thought you were just one of the people in the pack, but you’ve moved from the pack into a frontrunner.” Julianne Hough agreed with that: “Each week for me, you are the one who takes the biggest strides. This show is all about growth, and when we watch you each week that’s what we see.”
Kerrigan earned 8s from Inaba, Hough and Tonioli, as well as a stellar 9 from Goodman for a total of 33 out of 40, which placed her fourth on the judges’ leaderboard. Do you agree that her performance suddenly made her a frontrunner in the competition?
