“The lady can shake it like the best!” said Bruno Tonioli in response to figure skater Nancy Kerrigan‘s samba on week three of “Dancing with the Stars,” which celebrated “Vegas Night.” “I like that side of you, keep working it.” The samba is one of the most challenging dance styles featured on “DWTS,” but it turned out to be a breakthrough for Kerrigan and her pro partner Artem Chigvintsev. After two weeks of mid-level scores, she delivered the second highest scoring routine of the night (33 out of 40), just one point shy of the leader, Normani Kordei.
Tonioli added that the dance wasn’t just sexy, it also “had the full range of proper samba steps … and it never lost the performance level throughout.” Carrie Ann Inaba followed Tonioli by saying, “What I loved most was that you did not sacrifice the style of the dance to put on a fantastic performance. Well done.”
Len Goodman and Julianne Hough were even more glowing in their praise. Goodman said, “It’s the best dance I’ve seen this season,” and he gave her the only 9 he’s given this year so far. Hough went a step further, calling it “the best samba I think I’ve seen on the show in a really long time.”
