Figure skater Nancy Kerrigan was eliminated from “Dancing with the Stars” on “Movie Night,” but at least she went out with a bang. After struggling a bit with her paso doble during last week’s “Boy Bands vs. Girl Groups” night, she and her pro partner Artem Chigvintsev delivered a romantic tango that was “five-star deluxe” according to judge Bruno Tonioli. He added that their routine was “glossy, elegant, sophisticated. I loved the little bit of cheekiness you put into it as well. Fantastic shapes, great lines.” Watch Kerrigan’s bittersweet farewell routine above.
Emmy nominated choreographer Mandy Moore joined the panel as a guest judge this week, sitting in for Julianne Hough, and she praised Chigvintsev for “creating a story and telling a story within that choreography. I thought that was impeccable.” She also admired Kerrigan’s “beautiful” footwork, though she noted a slight problem with her posture at the end of the dance.
Carrie Ann Inaba noted, “I think something has opened up in you. You seem so much more relaxed than I’ve ever seen you, and it showed in your performance.” And Len Goodman concluded, “I thought the quantity of steps was in that routine, and the quality of movement was there. That was a pretty good tango.” Kerrigan was unfortunately eliminated at the end of the night, but at least she ended on a high note, receiving straight 9s for a total of 36 out of 40.
