‘Dancing with the Stars’: Nikki Bella’s contemporary dance proved a neck injury couldn’t keep her down [WATCH]

“I’m choosing 2016. It’s when I made my comeback to the ring,” said WWE wrestler Nikki Bella about the inspiration for her performance on “Dancing with the Stars” for “Most Memorable Year Night,” in which the contestants commemorate a period of special significance in their lives. “In the months leading up to 2016 I was living the dream of what any WWE superstar wants.” But when she started experiencing physical symptoms like pain and numbness she had an MRI and discovered a life-threatening neck injury. “I don’t think I’ve ever been that scared in my entire life.” However, she fought hard to recover and was “back in that ring in seven months later … You can try to keep this girl down, but it won’t happen.” Bella performed a contemporary routine to celebrate her comeback from the potential career-ending injury. Watch it above.

This performance scored straight 8s from judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli for a grand total of 24 out of 30. That placed her in the middle of the pack — a six-way tie for fourth place to be exact — but it was her highest score yet, which made it a breakthrough for her on the dance floor. It looked for a while that she might be at risk of elimination following lower scores in recent weeks, but each time she has received the viewer votes she has needed to fight — and dance — another day.

Do you think Bella will continue to improve? Should her scores have been even higher this week? Vote in our poll below to let us know what you think.
