“Last week I wanted to turn that dance floor into my wrestling ring and dominate it,” said WWE star Nikki Bella about her tango in the “Dancing with the Stars” season premiere, but she was disappointed by Len Goodman‘s critique that she kept looking down during her performance. “I thought I felt confident, but I guess I wasn’t.” So for “Ballroom Night,” Bella wanted to prove her confidence to herself and the judges while also performing a much different style of dance: an elegant waltz. Watch her performance above to see how she and pro partner Artem Chigvintsev did.
“I’m not just muscles and headlocks. I need to prove to people that there is this elegant woman in here,” said Bella, who dedicated the dance to her nana. And she proved just that. Judge Bruno Tonioli said, “My fair Nikki, starry-eyed under the starry sky — so ladylike … It was a wonderful transformation. It was prim, it was proper, it was correct.” Carrie Ann Inaba added, “What I love is that so early in the competition, you’ve already learned to trust, and that is the hardest thing for people who already know how to move on their own — to trust their partner … That made you dance as one, and that made it stunning.”
Len Goodman concluded, “Your head was much better: you weren’t looking down. It had soft, lyrical movements. I would have liked, Artem, a little more in hold, but the whole thing had a beauty about it and I thought it was great.”
Bella and Chigvintsev scored straight 7s from the judges for a total of 21 out of 30, which tied her for sixth place with Lindsey Stirling? Did the judges get it right? Should she have scored higher? Vote in our poll below to let us know what you thought.
