Singer Normani Kordei ruled week two of “Dancing with the Stars” with her splendid cha cha with pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy, so much so that she finished at the top of the judges’ leaderboard, tied with football player Rashad Jennings. Both celebs scored straight 8s from the judges for a total of 32 out of 40, but if it weren’t still so early in the competition I think this was the kind of routine that might have gotten 9s or 10s. Do you agree? Watch her cha cha above and decide for yourself.
Truth be told I thought Kordei was underscored in week one. She performed first, and having nothing to compare her to the judges scored her conservatively, but I thought her quickstep was one of the best that night as well. And our readers agreed based on our poll results. But there was no denying her in week two, even though she was trying to balance a hectic touring schedule with her music group Fifth Harmony that had her training with Chmerkovskiy in Japan.
Len Goodman said, “With your commitments, it would have been so easy to have taken the easy option or taken ages to get started, but no. It was a full routine … and I thought it was terrific.” Julianne Hough added, “When you dance, I just want to get up there and dance with you. You’re so amazing.” Bruno Tonioli raved in pure Tonioli style, “That was no jet lag, that was jet-set!” The gushing completed with Carrie Ann Inaba, who called her “dazzling.”
Did you love Kordei’s cha cha as much as the judges did? Watch her routine above and then vote in our poll below to decide your favorite routine from last night. And if you think she’ll win the Mirror Ball Trophy you can make your predictions here.
