Singer Normani Kordei is going into tonight’s “Dancing with the Stars” season finale at a bit of a disadvantage. Though she had gotten the highest score on the leaderboard five times this season, more than any other contestant, she’s currently playing catch-up. Football player Rashad Jennings outscored her with two perfect dances during the finals, and he got to close the show with his showstopping freestyle. However, our readers are rooting for Kordei. Check out the complete poll results below.
After the three finalists were revealed last week, we asked our readers to tell us who they think deserves to win the Mirror Ball Trophy: Kordei, Jennings or underdog baseball player David Ross. The results were close, but ultimately our readers picked Kordei as the most deserving contestant with 46% of the vote. Indeed, Kordei has been the best, most consistent performer of the season, according to the judges: she has the highest cumulative score.
But Jennings isn’t far behind. He received 38% of the vote from our readers. He’s part of a long tradition of football players on “DWTS.” NFL stars have won the Mirror Ball Trophy three times before — Emmitt Smith (season three), Hines Ward (season 12) and Donald Driver (season 14) — while numerous others have made the finals. And unlike Kordei, who came into the competition with prior dance training, Jennings has shown a lot of growth as a genuine amateur, which is in keeping with the spirit of the show.
The last 16% of our readers picked Ross as their choice to win. Like Jennings he’s a true novice on the dance floor. He hasn’t shown as much growth — viewer votes have kept him in the competition while the judges have kept placing him at the bottom of their leaderboard — but his wholehearted embrace of the “DWTS” experience and his showmanship as an entertainer have endeared him to the audience.
