‘Dancing with the Stars’ season 25 pro dancers: Fans want Derek Hough and Mark Ballas to come back

Dancing with the Starsannounces its season 25 pro dancers on Thursday morning, August 24, on “Good Morning America,” and our readers have been sharing with us their wish lists for which pros they would like to see compete when the show returns live on Monday, September 18. They long for a few old favorites come back, especially Derek Hough, Mark Ballas, and Tony Dovolani.

Hough is arguably the biggest breakout star to come out of “DWTS,” and is now more famous himself than many of the celeb contestants who compete on the show. And for good reason: Hough is far and away the most successful pro dancer in the show’s history, winning the Mirror Ball Trophy six times. To compare, no other pro has won the Mirror Ball more than twice. And those aren’t the only prizes Hough has won. He has claimed two Emmy Awards for Best Choreography out of nine nominations to date, and he contends again this year for the routine “Kairos.” On top of that he just ended his first season as a judge on NBC’s competition series “World of Dance.”

Ballas won the Mirror Ball Trophy twice, with figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi (season six) and gymnast Shawn Johnson (season eight), but it’s been eight years since he last prevailed, and he hasn’t competed on the show at all since season 22 over a year ago, when he finished second with UFC fighter Paige VanZant. And like Hough, Ballas has contended at the Emmys for his choreography, but just once (in 2011), and he hasn’t won. Isn’t it about time he made a comeback?

Dovolani’s “DWTS” career stretched from season two to season 22, during which time he earned one Emmy nomination (in 2006) and won one Mirror Ball Trophy (with Melissa Rycroft in season 15). Like Ballas, his last appearance in the ballroom was season 22, when he competed with Marla Maples, finishing 10th.

Who would be on your “DWTS” pro dancers wish list? Check out some of our readers comments below, and find out on August 24 if your dreams come true.

Katy McClure: “I love all the pro dancers and wish that Tony would come back.”

Yolanda Vazquez: “I’m tired of seeing the [Chmerkovskiy] brothers all the time, with their attitude so stupid and arrogant. Please let’s see new dancers or get Derek back.”

Linda: “I LOVE the brothers! Boring without them.”

Paula: “Maks and Val are the best! They make that show worth watching.”

Deborah Bonollo: “I would like to see Derek Hough and Mark B.”

Susie Summers: “I’d like to see Chelsie Hightower back. I don’t know why they fired her in the first place. It wasn’t her fault that they always paired her up with lousy dancers.”

Bernadine McKenney: “I would Love Mark, Derek and Tony coming back.”

K Wilhelm: “Alan Bersten is an amazing personality and dancer. I saw him twice on tour and he reminds me of Derek Hough 10 years ago: Cocky, but confident; energetic, enthusiastic, young, phenomenal dancer (think Alan may have slight edge) and very sexy (Alan definitely has the edge here). Hope Hayley will move up too.”

Christie Quillen: “I hope Jenna Johnson gets another chance at being a pro. She is a great dancer.”

Sandy: “I really wish that Derek, Mark and Tony would come back on the show. They made the show worth watching.”
