“I was blown away — sensational!” said “Dancing with the Stars” judge Bruno Tonioli about football player Rashad Jennings‘s freestyle routine during the finals on Monday night (watch it above). He delivered a performance that blended Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars‘s “Uptown Funk” with a drum-line marching band breakdown, and it seemed to be unequivocally the judges’ favorite performance of the night. Tonioli added, “I tell you: uptown, downtown, across America, everyone will never forget this one.”
Carrie Ann Inaba raved, “You have been holding out on us. That is how you turn this mother out!” Julianne Hough told him the performance “is going in the book as one of” the most iconic freestyle dances in the show’s history. And Len Goodman said, “That was so good I could even put up with the music. You have gone from strength to strength. You’re the one with the momentum going into tomorrow night. Well done!”
After those remarks it surprised no one that Jennings received 10s across the board from the panel of judges for a perfect 40 out of 40. Every contestant received a perfect score for their freestyle routines on Monday night, but Jennings is the only contestant who received two perfect scores during the finals. That puts him on top of the leaderboard going into Tuesday night’s results. For the last three weeks we have been predicting singer Normani Kordei as the frontrunner for the Mirror Ball Trophy, but the tide may have just turned.
