“Dancing with the Stars” won’t officially announce its season 25 celebrity contestants until Wednesday, September 6, but details continue to leak about who is competing. Entertainment Tonight recently reported that NBA star Derek Fisher will be dancing with pro Sharna Burgess. But it’s another star who I think might have the potential to go all the way: Jordan Fisher (no relation to Derek).
Jordan Fisher isn’t a household name, but his resume indicates that he’ll be successful on the dance floor. He’s a singer and actor with a background in gymnastics in musical theater. He previously appeared in the 2013 Disney Channel musical “Teen Beach Movie” and in the Disney Channel series “Liv and Maddie” — Disney owns ABC, which airs “DWTS,” and history shows they like to keep it in the corporate family. In addition to those credits, he also appeared in FOX’s Emmy winning “Grease: Live” production and joined the cast of “Hamilton” on Broadway in November 2016.
So it sounds like Fisher could be one of this season’s ringers, bringing more dance experience to the show than his fellow “amateur” contestants. Sometimes fans embrace those contestants (like figure skaters Kristi Yamaguchi and Meryl Davis, and Broadway alum Alfonso Ribeiro), but sometimes fans reject them (last season Heather Morris was eliminated in eighth place, possibly because her resume included professional dance work with Beyonce).
It helps Fisher that he’s reportedly competing with Lindsay Arnold, who has made the finals three times with celebs who had no dance experience: military hero Alek Skarlatos (third place, season 21), football player Calvin Johnson (third place, season 23), and most surprisingly baseball player David Ross (second place, season 24). Having a partner with proven dance skills might be her ticket to her first Mirror Ball Trophy. Do you agree?
