“Dancing with the Stars” troupe member Alan Bersten did a good deed this week. After veteran pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy sustained a calf injury while training for his week-two jive with “Glee” actress Heather Morris, Bersten stepped in as his substitute. Chmerkovskiy announced on Tuesday that he has no “concrete return date,” so Bersten will be performing with Morris again in week three. We’re hoping Chmerkovskiy recovers soon so he can get back on the dance floor, but we’re also impressed by Bersten’s grace under pressure. Do you think he should come back in the future as a full-time pro dancer? Vote in our poll below.
Despite having limited time to prepare, Bersten helped Morris improve her judges’ scores from week to week. She received a total of 30 out of 40, up from 28 on premiere night, despite the fact that Len Goodman scored them lower for incorporating hip-hop into their jive routine (watch their controversial dance here). And this isn’t the first time Bersten has helped a celeb in need. In season 22 pro dancer Mark Ballas injured his back, so Bersten stepped in to perform with his partner, UFC fighter Paige VanZant. Coincidentally, that was also in the second week of competition, and Bersten’s partnership also led to improved scores from the judges.
Bersten competed on “So You Think You Can Dance” before joining “Dancing with the Stars.” He was a finalist in season 10, finishing in the top 12. If he becomes a full-time pro he would be following a career path similar to Allison Holker, who finished in the top eight on “SYTYCD” back in season two and has since competed as a pro four times on “DWTS.” So would you like to see Bersten train a celeb full-time in season 25? Vote in our poll below, and make sure to let us know if you think Morris will win the Mirror Ball Trophy in our predictions center.
