Olympic gymnast Simone Biles got the highest judges’ score in the season 24 premiere of “Dancing with the Stars” last Monday night, but singer Normani Kordei gave the best performance according to our readers. In our recent poll we asked you to tell us who was really the best on the dance floor, and 45% of you said it was the Fifth Harmony star.
Kordei had the unenviable task of opening the show and having to set the standard for the rest of the night. She performed a quickstep with her pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy, the defending Mirror Ball champ who won last season with gymnast Laurie Hernandez. Her resulting scores left her in the middle of the pack, but we think that was because the judges were being conservative, not wanting to give out high marks for the very first performer of the season without seeing what her competitors had to offer.
Tied for second place in our poll were Biles and “Glee” actress Heather Morris with 17% of the vote. Biles danced a tango with partner Sasha Farber while Morris delivered a Viennese waltz with Maksim Chmerkovskiy, and though Biles got the top score of the evening, Morris had to settle for a tie for third place with figure skater Nancy Kerrigan and baseball player David Ross.
Football player Rashad Jennings surprised judges with his cha cha with Emma Slater and finished second in the scores, just one point behind Biles. But he has to settle for fourth place in our reader poll with 7% of the vote.
