On March 1, “Dancing with the Stars” announced the cast of celebs and pro dancers who will be competing in season 24, which begins on Monday, March 20. So the first live dances for these stars are still almost three weeks away, but now that we know who will be in the ballroom, who do you think will rise and who will fall — perhaps literally? Is there already a clear frontrunner? And who are you rooting for to win the Mirror Ball Trophy? Gold Derby contributor Jeffrey Kare joined me to discuss the new cast; watch our chat above and vote for your early favorite in our poll at the bottom of this post.
Top 10 BEST ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Contestants Ever
Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez won season 23 of “DWTS” last fall in decisive fashion. Does that mean her teammate Simone Biles is a shoo-in this year? Maybe not. Though gymnasts have a strong track record on the show, so do ice skaters, and this year Nancy Kerrigan is also in the celebrity lineup. Football players tend to succeed as well, so NFL running back Rashad Jennings may also be a force to be reckoned with.
Or perhaps we’re in for a surprise. Nick Viall could be the first “Bachelor” to win the show, though former “Bachelortte” Melissa Rycroft did win season 15 of the reality competition series. Or perhaps veteran celebs like Mr. T (age 64) and Charo (age 65) could make history as the oldest Mirror Ball champion. Even bull-rider Bonner Bolton has a chance to surprise us, much the way relatively unknown race car driver James Hinchcliffe did last season.
