Football player Rashad Jennings and his pro partner Emma Slater were nearly perfect on “Dancing with the Stars” in week four, so expectations were high for “Disney Night” in week five when he performed a foxtrot inspired by the current live-action remake of “Beauty and the Beast.” Was it as good as last week’s top-scoring routine? Not according to the judges — Carrie Ann Inaba even gave him a 7. His total for the night was 32 out of 40, respectable under most circumstances, but on what turned out to be a highly competitive night it left him tied for sixth place, just three points out of the bottom of the leaderboard. Was he under-scored, or did the judges get it right? Watch his foxtrot above and decide for yourself.
Len Goodman was complimentary, saying “the beast has turned into Prince Charming. It had lovely flow. There was an elegance about it.” Both Goodman and Julianne Hough noted how challenging it must have been for the couple to follow the unusual tempo of their song, “Evermore” by Josh Groban, but Hough still thought it was “timeless.” Bruno Tonioli added, “You really captured the sumptuous, classic Disney feel … You’re so good at connecting and emoting.” Inaba was the most critical; she thought Jennings seemed “trapped in. I don’t know what it was, but your movements felt a little small and constricted.”
