Going into the fifth week of competition on “Dancing with the Stars,” Olympic gymnast Simone Biles still hasn’t relinquished the number-one spot in our predictions for who will win the Mirror Ball Trophy. According to our latest predictions as of this writing she gets 21/20 odds of prevailing. But it is starting to look like a fairly competitive four-way race.
Biles’s odds translate to a 48% chance of winning the season. That’s actually down slightly from last week when she had 5/6 odds (53% chance), so her rivals are slowly but surely chipping away at her lead. But those predicting her victory may have gotten a boost of confidence last week on “Most Memorable Year” night, when she performed her highest-scoring dance of the season so far, an emotional Viennese waltz dedicated to her adoptive parents that got 36 out of 40 from the judges.
But if Biles really is at risk of losing her frontrunner status, who will take her place at the top? Last week singer Normani Kordei was in second place coming off a stellar top-scoring foxtrot. But this week Rashad Jennings takes the runner-up position with 4/1 odds (20% chance of winning). That’s due in large part to his contemporary dance last week, which earned him a 9 and three 10s from the judges for a total of 39 out of 40. Those were the first 10s of the season, so it’s no wonder he got such a huge boost in our ratings from last week when he was down in fourth place with 20/1 odds (5% chance of winning).
This week Kordei drops down to third place with 6/1 odds (15% chance of winning), a significant decline from last week’s position (11/4 odds, 27% chance of winning). And actress Heather Morris, who has yet to get a top judges’ score this season, remains a dark horse contender in fourth place with 8/1 odds (11% chance). But despite falling from third to fourth, Morris actually improved from her 10/1 odds (10% chance) going into last week’s show.
As has been the case for most of the season, none of the other contestants come close to those four. Bull rider Bonner Bolton, “Bachelor” star Nick Viall and baseball player David Ross all have 50/1 odds (2% chance), while figure skater Nancy Kerrigan and “Real Housewives” star Erika Jayne are underdogs with 100/1 odds (1% chance for Kerrigan, almost 0% chance for Jayne).
