Unfortunately for death-defying escape artist Demian Aditya, technical difficulties led to his elimination Wednesday night on “America’s Got Talent” 2017 during the Quarterfinals 2 results episode. “America, sorry, something happened. My props didn’t [go] well,” explained the 37-year-old Indonesia native in his “AGT” exit interview (watch above).
“Until this Quarterfinal, I felt incredible,” admitted the talented magician. Indeed, Aditya was considered by many to be one of the favorites to win Season 12 of NBC’s long-running reality TV show.
Trying to put a positive spin on his ouster, Aditya concluded, “I have a new experience. I have new fans in America. People notice me when I go around in America, and ask me to take pictures. So yeah, it’s something new in my life.”
The past two times Aditya performed he made the “AGT” judges — Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Simon Cowell — believe that he’d failed his stunts and possibly died, before then appearing from another location very much alive and well. But during Aditya’s last performance, something went wrong which prevented the box he was supposedly trapped inside from falling down onto three burning spikes. The judges were left bewildered, as host Tyra Banks came out and explained, “There was a technical problem that was not Demian’s fault.”
Cowell made a joke of the situation, saying, “I kind of imagine this would be like Mel B’s wedding night. A lot of anticipation, not much promise or delivery.” That caused Mel B to throw her cup of water at him, drenching him on live TV.
