Donald Glover (‘Atlanta’) drops out of Princeton looking for his ‘big’ break [Exclusive Emmy Episode]

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Donald Glover is entering the “Atlanta” pilot episode “The Big Bang” as his Emmy submission for Best Comedy Actor. This installment of the FX program aired September 6 and was the debut episode of the first season. In this opener, Glover plays Earn Marks, a Princeton dropout who alternates living with his parents and girlfriend. Earn convinces his cousin Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) to let him manage his rap career. He is able to get one of Paper Boi’s songs on the radio and somewhat prove himself right away.

Will Glover take down two-time defending champion Jeffrey Tambor (“Transparent”) at this year’s Emmy Awards? They both compete against previous winners Aziz Ansari (“Master of None”), Zach Galifianakis (“Baskets”), and William H. Macy (“Shameless”), plus past nominee Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”).

Glover now has the first four nominations of his career for producing, directing, writing, and starring in this hit rookie show. He won Golden Globe Awards in January for Best Comedy Series and Best TV Comedy Actor, a Critics’ Choice Award in December for Best TV Comedy Actor, and two Writers Guild Awards for Best Comedy Series and Best New Series. The former star of “Community” is also known as the Grammy nominated rapper Childish Gambino.
