Ellen DeGeneres hosts her self-titled daytime talk show five days a week, but she’ll soon spend even more time on the airwaves. It was announced that she will be hosing and producing a primetime game show based on the popular games she plays on her talk show. “Ellen’s Game of Games” will get six hour-long episodes on NBC.
Said DeGeneres in a statement, “I’m so excited to be hosting a huge primetime game show for NBC. We’re pulling out all the stops — gigantic sets, hilarious games. It’s going to be like a combination of ‘American Ninja Warrior,’ ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ and a water park. OK, it’s nothing like that, but you should still watch.”
Added Paul Telegdy, NBC’s Alternative and Reality Group president, “Ellen’s impact as a daytime icon is unprecedented and we can’t wait to see her bring that amazing spirit to ‘Game of Games.’ She is among the very best at engaging with her devoted audience and we are all in for a treat when her antics hit primetime.”
“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” has been a daytime staple since 2003, and since then it has won nine Daytime Emmys for Best Talk Show. Her popular games include “Know or Go,” in which audience members have to answer trivia questions or else fall through a trap door; “Epic or Fail,” in which audience members have to determine if a viral YouTube clip ends in triumph or disaster; and “5 Second Rule,” in which celebrities need to give three examples that fit a given category before time runs out.
