Predict Emmy for Best Drama Guest Actor: Repeat win for Hank Azaria? First nomination for Gerald McRaney?

The 2017 Emmy ballots were released on Monday, June 12, and now Gold Derby has opened predictions in the race for Best Drama Guest Actor. Reigning champ Hank Azaria is back again for his recurring role on Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” as former FBI director Ed Cochran. Although that was the first-ever win for “Ray Donovan,” Azaria is an Emmy magnet with prior victories for Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actor for “Tuesdays With Morrie” (2000) and four for his voice-over work on “The Simpsons” (2015, 2003, 2001, 1998). Will he earn a repeat victory in this category?

Gerald McRaney, who plays standout character Dr. K on NBC’s “This Is Us,” could earn his first career Emmy bid for the family drama. If Emmy voters fall for the hit freshman series as much as America has, a pair of other guest stars might also hear their names called: Brian Tyree Henry as Ricky and Denis O’Hare as Jessie.

Another trio of actors could contend for CBS All Access’s “The Good Fight”: Dylan Baker as Colin Sweeney, John Cameron Mitchell as Felix Staples and Matthew Perry as Mike Kresteva. Of note, Baker earned three bids in this race for the original CBS series “The Good Wife,” while Perry also reprises his memorable former role on this new spinoff.

Besides Azaria, none of last year’s Best Drama Guest Actor nominees are back in contention in this category, which leaves the door wide open for a slew of new contenders to break through. However, 2013 Emmy champ Dan Bucatinsky is in the running again thanks to a dream sequence episode of “Scandal.” Those are just some of the many contenders you can choose from when making your Best Drama Guest Actor predictions at Gold Derby.
